On Thursday the 24th June Swansea Waste Forum will be inviting anyone who has a burning question about waste issues in Swansea to put their queries to a panel of experts. This Open Forum meeting will be held between 6pm & 8pm at the Dylan Thomas Centre.
The panel of speakers will be made up of representatives from Swansea council, the Welsh Assembly Government, community groups and the business sector. They will be ready to discuss the questions that have been asked by YOU.
The Panel is made up of:
· Russell Owen - Waste Strategy Officer, Welsh Assembly Government
· Reena Owen - Director of Environment, City & County of Swansea
· Robert Alexander - Manager, Enfys Foundation
· Chris Williams - Regional Environmental Management Advisor, Flexible Support for Business
· Mike Cullis - Programme Director, The School of the Built and Natural Environment, Swansea Metropolitan University
Anyone who has something on their mind about what’s in their bin can submit a question via the website at www.swanseawasteforum.org and are welcome to come along and hear how the panel respond.
The question time will be chaired by Philip McDonnell, local environmental consultant. Philip said
“Waste is high on the agenda for creating a more sustainable future and numerous measures are being taken to manage waste in a better way. This is an issue that affects everyone from businesses, the local authority, community and householders. This public meeting is an excellent opportunity for anyone living or working in Swansea to express what concerns them and quiz some of the local experts.”
Swansea Waste Forum has grown from strength to strength and in recent years has already held seminars on issues such as packaging, food waste, community recycling and composting technologies. This ‘Open Forum’ will give the members an opportunity to see what really matters to the people of Swansea and give ideas for how the Forum can help support effective and sustainable waste management practices in Swansea.
The event forms part of Swansea’s ‘Wise up to Waste Week’ that runs from Monday 21st to Saturday the 26th June. This is a week full of a variety of activities which aim to get people thinking of waste in a positive way. Other events during this week include community recycling information days; book, toy, games and clothes swaps; recycled crafts and bike repair workshops. The week is organised by Swansea Council in partnership with Swansea Waste Forum and various community groups.
